Decolonise Fest
Project Type
Design & Illustration
Date
April 2023
Decolonise Fest is London's groundbreaking DIY punk festival, collectively organized by and for punx of colour, where I served as the lead visual designer for their Glasgow, Birmingham, and Leeds events. The visual identity I created captures the festival's spirit of resistance and celebration through bold poster designs that challenge traditional punk aesthetics while honoring its rebellious roots. Through a carefully crafted design approach, the project amplifies the voices of marginalized communities in punk spaces, creating visibility for performers and audiences often overlooked in mainstream music scenes. Working across multiple cities required developing a cohesive yet adaptable visual language that could speak to different local communities while maintaining the festival's core message of inclusivity and anti-racism. The resulting posters and branding elements have helped establish Decolonise Fest as a vital platform for reimagining what punk can be when it truly embraces diversity and decolonial practices.
