Every Blade of Grass, Every Rock : Decolonising Arts Lab, University of Glasgow

Project type

Illustration & Design

Date

2022

The Critical Heritage Trail through Kelvingrove Park, developed in collaboration with Dr. Rosie Spooner at the University of Glasgow's Decolonising Arts Lab, offers a fresh perspective on one of Glasgow's most beloved public spaces. Through carefully designed visual elements and interpretive materials, the trail reveals the park's hidden connections to empire, colonialism, and Glasgow's industrial past. The project challenges traditional heritage narratives by highlighting overlooked histories and encouraging visitors to critically examine the cultural significance of familiar landmarks. This innovative approach to public history combines digital accessibility with physical exploration, allowing visitors to engage with complex historical themes while walking through the park's grounds. The trail serves as a model for how urban spaces can be reinterpreted to tell more complete and inclusive stories about our shared heritage.
